The former Thorpe Hall mill at Westgate Bridge was a paper mill until 1842 when it became a corn mill. It was later used as a trout farm, and is now in residential use with significant alterations. It is considered to be of townscape interest by the Louth Conservation Area Appraisal. {1}
Thorpe Hall Mill was a former paper mill which was recently used as a trout farm, then was converted to apartments. The original mill pond and weir, with remants of the old mill wheel are still in existence (2008) at the back of the building.
Papermaking did not begin in Louth until 1794/5. The paper mill probably began its use at this time and continued working until it was converted to a corn mill before April 1844. The corn mill worked until 1920. {2}
