Full Description

A Second World War Anderson type air-raid shelter, in the rear garden of 77 Main Street, Hundleby. The shelter is well preserved, being partially submerged as typical, and with its original metal doors, fixings and blast wall still in situ. The structure has not been significantly altered, and retains its wooden boarding at the closed end, its fixed table and benches. The structure is of considerable local significance as an intact example of the sort of shelters installed in vast numbers throughout the United Kingdom during the 1939-45 conflict. {1} An application to consider the shelter for listing was made in October 2008. Whilst the structure is very well preserved, and of clear local significance, it was deemed to not be of sufficient special interest in a national context to justify addition to the list. {2}
