Monument record MLI91359 - Circular features to the south of Quarrington

Summary

Circular features of recent origin to the south of Quarrington

Type and Period (2)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

PRN 65259 Circular features are visible on aerial photographs. It has been suggested these features may be prehistoric burial mounds or medieval windmill mounds. If they are windmill mounds, it is thought that they may be connected with the lost deserted medieval settlement of Millthorpe (PRN 65257). {1}{2} However, on close examination of other aerial photographs, it is clear that these features are actually related to recent equestrian activity and are probably horse exercise rings. {3}{4}
