Full Description

A school is shown on the 1905 map. {1} The school was founded in 1875 for 80 fee paying pupils, although the building is earlier and was previously used as a reading room. It appears to have still been open in 1985. {2} Single storey red brick building with stone quoins and window surrounds, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Large red brick and stone lateral stack to the rear. Stone string courses below windows and at eaves height. The gables are coped and corbelled in stone. The building was in use as a post office until the late 2010s, and is now in use as a prviately run creative arts centre. {3}{4} A school existed in Folkingham as early as 1713, when Richard Brocklesby endowed it with one moiety of the rent of 50 acres of land in what is now Cambridgeshire. White's 1856 Trade Directory stated that the school had been closed for two years at that time, but was to be reopened soon under a new scheme of management. It is unclear if this school was on the same site as the current building. {5}
