Full Description

A Wesleyan chapel was founded in the village in 1841, replacing a previous meeting house. {1} The building is constucted of brick with later rendering and pantile roof. There is a date-stone of 1841. The east gallery retains its original box pews, although without their doors. {2}{3} The building is named on the current (2002) Ordnance Survey mapping as 'The Old Chapel'. {4} The chapel was designed and built by Thomas Kelso in 1841. A gallery was added in 1845, uncreasing the seating to 150. The last service was held in 1974, and the chapel was sold in 1978, when it was converted into a furniture restorer's premises. The building was again sold in 1995, when it was converted to a private house. {5}{6}{7}
