Full Description

A linear feature was recorded in November 2007, during the excavation of a trial trench on land at the Horseplay Equestrian Centre, Northgate, Pinchbeck. The feature was thought to be the remains of a former palaeochannel, measuring approximately 8m wide. It was filled by natural alluvial silts and a dark, slightly organic peaty deposit, although it would appear that the upper part of the channel had been eroded by ploughing. No artefacts were recovered and the channel could not be dated, although research in this region has shown that many such infilled and buried channels were open watercourses during the Roman period. {1}{2}
