Full Description

Five mid 18th century houses, now converted into one hotel. The houses were built on an earlier core. For the full description and the legal address of these listed buildings please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} Lady Anne's Hotel was the subject of a programme of building recording, conducted in September 2006, prior to proposed conversion, refurbishment and extension works. The phasing of the buildings is complicated, and they have been altered and extended during the 19th and 20th century, including the alterations made to convert them into a hotel in the 1980s. The buildings do, however, retain many early features including a stairway, house-style doors, some fireplaces (although many of these are boarded over) and the windows on the street frontage, which still retain their shutters. The gardens were laid out in 1885 by Lord Rosslyn, in a formal pattern which is still evident. The buildings of 37 and 38 St Martins were used as dormitories for a girls' school during the mid 20th century. {2}{3}{4}
