Full Description

A large house labelled Wilsford Hall is shown on the 1905 map. It is dated 1669. {1} This house is described as "a large, ancient mansion in the Elizabethan style, with pleasant grounds". It was owned by the Duke of Rutland until it was purchased by Mr Charles Parkinson in 1815. {2} The Hall is thought to have been built by Sir Charles Cotterel, a gentleman attached to the court of Charles II. It was used as a "hunting-box" by the Duke of Rutland. {3} The building is not shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1981, and may possibly have been demolished. {4}
