Full Description

Former school and schoolmaster's house. One and two storey red brick building in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Two gable stacks. A gabled porch on the single storey range has a datestone above the entranceway, reading '1858'. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory does not mention a specific school building in the parish, but lists a Mrs Ann Healey as schoolmistress. The 1872 Directory notes that the school ws built in 1859, by subscription. {2}{3} The school is shown in the same plan form on both the 1888 and 1905 OS maps of the village. {4}{5} The building is now in use as a village hall, after the school was closed in 1971. {6}
