Full Description

PRN 70590 Several sherds of Romano-British pottery were recovered during trial trenching. Some of the pottery consisted of large, unabraded sherds however it appears to have been residual, based on the possible later date of finds from a lower deposit (however this dating is not certain). During the Roman period, this area appears to have been marginal, wet land unsuitable for habitation although it was occasionally used for refuse dumping. The area was occasionally flooded, and at some times was under open water. {1}{2} A thin soil horizon containing a single sherd of 3rd century pottery was seen during a watching brief. This is comparable to similar deposits seen in earlier work. {3}{4}
