Full Description

PRN 65207 A traditional barn form built in the late 18th century. The barn at Parks Farm (one of the earliest surviving agricultural buildings in the fenland parishes) has the characteristic tall double and opposed threshing doors in the long walls. Between lay the threshing floor, where throughout the winter, small quantities of grain were threshed each day and winnowed in the slight draught which could be created and regulated by varying the combination of open and closed doors. By local standards, the barn at Park Farm is quite large.{1} Later additions to the farm included a fully enclosed cow house, built in the 19th century. The cow house still has its interior fittings, showing that it had a feeding passage in front of the stalls, along which fodder from an adjacent fodder room could be moved, and from which it was easy to transfer it to the manger and hay racks at the cows' heads. The building is unusual in that each double stall was separated from the adjacent stalls by a low partition with a gate, and was entered from the outside by its own doorway, suggesting that each stall could be used as a loose box for fattening box.{1} Hall Farm (Parks Farm), Great Hale. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard with multiple regular yards. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been significant loss (greater than 50%) of traditional buildings. Isolated location. Large modern sheds are located on the site. {2}
