Full Description

Three of the stone walls of a small field to the north of Church Farm show signs of having once been part of a building. The south wall has first floor timber joists embedded in the stonework and the eastern and northern walls include large dressed stones. The northern wall, which now forms the rear wall of a cart shed, also shows signs of having had an entranceway which is now filled in. The roof of the cart shed is supported along its front elevation by five substantial oak posts, each of which had a series of joints down each side which appeared to be an early form of chase tenon. Similar joints have been seen on a Saxo-Norman structure in Leicestershire. {1}
