Full Description

Red brick barn of probable 18th century date with later alterations. The lower part of the barn is constructed of hand-made brick laid with lime mortar in Flemish and English bonds, whilst the upper part including the eaves and roof is of later construction. The roof is of heavy pitch pine king post trusses of mid-late 19th century date. On the south-west elevation is a section of diaper brick-work, and there are also some dressed stone quoins on the north-east corner of the barn. It is suggested that the barn may originally have had a domestic function in its earliest stage and be of 17th century date (like the nearby Grange), although this is not certain. {1} Further images of the building are available in a photographic survey done in 2007. {2}
