Full Description
Former medieval field system, to the north of Winthorpe, comprising ridge and furrow fields, hedge banks, enclosures and a drove way, all identified as earthworks on Google Maps satellite imagery. Very likely associated with a nearby moated site (see PRN 41674). {1}
Remnants of the former medieval field system were recorded in November 2012, during a topographical survey, conducted to inform the proposed expansion of the Skegness Water Park. The survey recorded a series of extant boundary ditches, delineating many of the former field divisions. It appears that this area has suffered heavily from modern agriculture, however, and all of the medieval ridge and furrow earthworks previously identified here appear to have been destroyed. {2}{3}
