Full Description

PRN 24066 Distinct cropmark double-ditched linear feature, Whaplode. A large, c.20m wide double-ditched feature, forming an enclosure abutting the 'Roman Bank' Sea Defences (PRN 24025). Possibly an area enclosed by a sea bank and ditches, forming the parish boundary between Whaplode and Holbeach. Two further double-ditched features are connected to the north and northeast of the enclosure (connecting with a possibly earlier sea defence bank PRN 24067). Seen on Google Maps (web site) aerial photograph layer.{1}{2} The ditches and possible bank appear to have been ploughed out by the early 20th century as they do not appear on the 1905 Ordnance Survey County Series Map.{3} Faint linear features can be discerned on recent LIDAR scans.{4}
