Full Description
PRN 24064
Medieval features consisting of six ditches, two pits, a pond and a subsoil were uncovered during a watching brief. One pit contained a significant amount of pottery suggesting occupation in the vicinity in the 12th century. Some of these features were subsequently sealed by the subsoil which may have been of alluvial origin, suggesting a flood. Following the flood, features were identified which contained generally smaller amounts of pottery, suggesting that settlement had moved away from the site. Also, ridge and furrow has been seen at this site (PRN 23536) so there appears to have been a change to agricultural use. Pottery of the 14th-15th centuries is scarce, suggesting that this change occurred then. {1}{2}
