- BRIDGE (Post Medieval to Modern - 1835 AD to 2050 AD)
Protected Status/Designation
Full Description
PRN 64914
West Banks and Watergate were originally separated by the River Slea, and there seems to have been no way to reach Watergate from West Banks, except possibly by fording it. The path from Westgate Mill to the town continued along the south bank of the river to emerge onto Southgate, and Watergate itself was a dead-end. 'Roaring Bridge' was built in 1835 to link the two paths.{1}
