Full Description

Heath Camp was a Prisoner of War camp during the Second World War. In the official government numbering it was camp number 156 and referred to as Heath Camp, Pottergate Plantation, Wellingore. It is recorded as a German working camp placed on the site of a former RAF base. {1} The camp is visible on RAF aerial photographs taken in April 1947. {4} The camp is visible on the OS 6 inch map of the early 1950s. {2} The site is now still partially visible {3} with two Second World War dog tags found in the immediate area along with a badge belonging to a German officer. The area itself is still visible to a degree with some of the buildings having been turned into farm or out buildings. {5}
