Full Description

A linear feature containing two pieces of 13th-15th century tile was uncovered in April 2007, during a watching brief at 32 South Park, Lincoln. This feature is thought to represent a boundary ditch which formed part of the parish boundary between the parish of St Botolph and South Common. The ditch appears to have been created in the medieval period and to have remained in use well into the post-medieval period. It was sealed by a substantial build up of material, possibly the result of flooding. A second linear feature appears to represent a re-cutting of the boundary ditch, possibly due to the flooding of the previous one. This feature is shown on maps up to 1868 but is not apparent on a map of 1883. It seems likely that it was at least partially filled in to allow for housing development. {1}{2}
