Full Description

Former school and schoolmaster's house. Two storey red brick schoolmaster's house in an unusual bond of two headers alternating with two stretchers, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Yellow brick quoins and window surrounds. Two gabled dormers. Gabled porch. All gables coped in stone. One ridge stack. A datestone on the street-facing elevation reads '1859'. The adjoining schoolroom is a single storey red brick building in Stretcher Bond, under a pitched gabled slate roof. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that a school and schoolmaster's house were built in 1859. The school was attended at that time by more than 30 pupils. {2} The school is shown on the 1889 and 1905 OS maps of Swarby. {3}{4}
