Full Description

1834 rebuild by Charles Kirk of school founded in the 17th century. Tudor Gothic style. Ashlar and red brick with slate roofs. Main entrance has three storeys, three windows, two gables with moulded capping and finial. Central door has four-centred arch; rectangular mullioned hung sash windows of two lights, glazing bars, all with moulded labels. Shield with arms and rectangular dripmould over door. Buildings of one storey in ashlar each side with one mullioned window, connected with main building by plain walls with central doorways with four-centred arches. 'Gothic' gate piers, no railings. Early and mid 20th century additions in red brick. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The school was founded in 1604 by Robert Carre, and was intended for the better education of children born or living with their parents in the parishes of New Sleaford, Old Sleaford, Aswarby, Holdingham, North and South Rauceby , Anwick, Kirkby la Thorpe and Evedon. The school did well until the Civil War period, when the upheaval of the war interrupted the school's funding. At some period after this, the salary paid to the masters became insufficient and there were problems appointing them. A new arrangement was worked out in the 1830s, and new buildings built. {4}
