The Sessions House was built in 1831 by the local architect H E Kendall in a Gothic Style. It has two storeys in ashlar. The first floor has five windows of four lights, mullion and transom and quatrefoil, under arched dripmould. The right hand corner has a rectangular dripmould and a slightly different window. There is an arcaded ground floor of six four-centred arches facing Market Place, with moulded labels and an embattled string course.The extension to the right (No 1) is later but of similar style. It has three storeys, an embattled parapet with an end turret to the right. There are three windows with chamfered surrounds and Gothic glazing. The centre window on the first floor is a shallow canted bay with a centre light only and an embattled parapet. The ground floor has two arched windows and an arched doorway with a Gothic fanlight and a plain door. The Town Hall was also known as the Sessions House, and the Petty Sessions and County Court were held there in the 19th century. {3}
