The name 'Thorpe' refers to a secondary settlement, in this case to Helpringham. The 'Latimer' element is a family name. The settlement is first mentioned in documentary sources in the late 12th century. {2}
Thorpe Latimer is mentioned (with Helpringham) in the Lay Subsidy of 1334. {3}
Traces of deserted settlement earthworks are visible to the north and south of the current farm, surrounded by ridge and furrow (PRN 64550). {5}{6}
