Full Description

PRN 36808 A ditch containing early-mid Saxon pottery was seen during trial trenching. An undated ditch was also noted which lay parallel to this feature and which therefore may be contemporary. Animal bone was also recovered from the dated ditch, which may suggest Saxon settlement in the vicinity. {1}{2} These features may have been identified during a geophysical survey carried out prior to trial trenching. {3} A large sub-rectangular pit containing 5th-8th century pottery and a fragment of horse bone was found during a watching brief. Together with the features found previously this suggests a focus of early-mid Saxon occupation to the south of the medieval and later village. {4}{5}
