Full Description

Now in use as a single residence called Rowan Cottage, this building was previously divided as a number of separate cottages. The structure is built of limestone ashlar and features a pitched roof of red clay pantiles. The building has a single chimney stack at the western gable end, and a double chimney stack in the middle. {1} A datestone set into the eastern gable end gives a date of 1864 for the building's construction. The positions of three, now blocked, former doorways can be clearly seen on the front (southern) elevation, and indicate the structure was originally divided into four 'two-up, two-down' cottages. The building was converted in the 1970s, with the three easternmost former cottages now made into a single residence called Rowan Cottage. The westernmost former cottage now forms part of the adjacent Forge Cottage (see MLI89610). As part of the 1970s conversion, off-street parking was provided to the rear of the property by taking down and re-building the lower part of the eastern gable, creating a cantilevered entrance drive. {2}{3}
