There was also a frequent occurance of Roman building materials in the lower levels of the excavation. These features suggest the presence of a Roman building, perhaps of some quality, fronting onto Ermine Street. {1}{2} During trial trenching at Newport Fire Station in December 1993, the City of Lincoln Archaeology Unit retrieved a small amount of 2nd to 3rd century pottery from two of the trial holes. {3}{4}
