Full Description

A former brickworks is depicted in this location to the south of Brant Broughton, on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map. {1} The works here produced bricks, tiles and pipes, extracting clay from shallow diggings on the site. The bricks produced were hand-made for almost the whole time of operation, with machinery installed only two years before the yard ceased working in about 1912. A major factor in the closure was thought to be the high cost of transporting coal to the site, with the nearest station being four miles away. {2}
