Full Description

PRN 64354 Several undated features are visible on aerial photographs of the fields to the north and south of the A17 to the east of Kirkby la Thorpe village. These include two thick linear features in the field to the south of the road. These cross each other at right angles and appear to overlie the ridge and furrow in the same field, and may represent post medieval field boundaries, although they do not correspond with any shown on the 1905 Ordnance Survey map. Also visible are a series of sinuous linear features extending through the fields on both sides of the road. These features also seem to cross each other, forming a series of irregularly-shaped possible enclosures. The date and function of these features is unclear, although they may possibly be remnants of former stream channels. There is also a dark blob in the field to the north of the road - this represents a former pond which is shown on the 1905 Ordnance Survey map. {1}{2}
