Full Description

PRN 64246 Site of former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel as depicted on the Ordnance Survey County Series Map of 1905.{1} In 1881-2 a Wesleyan Chapel was built in North Rauceby, and a thriving non-conformist group was established there. A Sunday School was held each Sunday morning and services were held at 2.30pm and 6pm.{2} In 1821 a house "probably in North Rauceby" was registered by Methodists. The chapel subsequently built in 1881-2 still survives, though much altered, and has been divided into two houses. It closed in 1967. It was built of coursed rubble and sits on a gault brick plinth. It has been completely refenestrated and the gabled roof has a covering of modern concrete tiles. A photograph shows that the chapel originally had a three-bay front with a central gabled porch, with a pointed doorway, set between 2 pointed windows and a slate roof with raised gables. There are small circular openings in the gables and two eroded ashlar memorial stones survive.{3}{4}}{5}
