Full Description

PRN 64237 Former Primitive Methodist chapel, built in 1879 in simple Gothic style. {1} The building is shown on the current map as The Chapel House. {2} The site was visited in 2009. In 1851 the Primitive Methodist place of worship in Ewerby was part of a house. This chapel was opened in 1879 and closed in 1981. Its style is influenced by the fact that it is part of an estate village. It is built of yellow brick with ashlar dressings and has a gabled roof with stone copings and decorative terracotta ridge tiles. The gable is surmounted by a gabled bell turret with stone copings and a metal finial. The front gable elevation has a pointed doorway with an ashlar arch inscribed 'Primitive Methodist Chapel', and a hoodmould. Above the door is a pair of pointed windows separated by a stone colonnette, also with ashlar dressings. A tablet above has the date of 1879. The eaves cornices and gable verges have dogtooth brickwork. The south elevation has three bays of pointed windows and a gabled red brick annexe, which is now used as a garage, has been added to the north.{3}{4}{5}{6}{7}
