Full Description

PRN 13867 During a watching brief on land off Manwaring Way, Swineshead, two sherds of early Medieval pottery were recovered: a sherd of Early Saxon, quartz gritted ware (5th - 7th century) and a sherd of a Thetford-type ware jar (late 9th - 11th century). Of particular interest is the single sherd of Saxon material. It seems likely that there was some activity in this vicinity in this period. No pottery of such an early date was found in previous investigations, and this is a rare find in this or any locality and is, therefore, of significance.{1}{2}
