Full Description

PRN 64063 A site visit and walkover survey was carried out along the proposed route of the Clayhill WTW Nitrates Reduction Scheme pipeline. In Field 22, a large rim sherd of Roman pottery and part of a Roman tile were found in a field clearance heap. The size of these fragments indicates that there may be an occupation site nearby. The finds had been moved from their original position by stone clearance, but it is assumed that they derived from this field. The presence of quantities of limestone in the heaps may also be of interest given that the local geology is fen sands and gravels, suggesting that the stone may be introduced building material (although not necessarily Roman). {1}{2}
