The name supposedly originates with the White family, who occupied the house from the early 1800s to the 1860s. George Patchett White is listed as a grocer in Ludborough in White's 2nd Edition Trade Directory of Lincolnshire (1856). Originally thatched, a corrugated roof was added in the 20th century. The roof has since been rethatched. {2}{3}{4}
