Full Description
PRN 46557
Parish church, built in 1856 by G. E. Street. Constructed in limestone ashlar, with plain tiled roofs with stone coped gables and cross finials. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.{1}
Nave with a double bellcote, chancel and apse. Tiled. Rose in heavy plate tracery at the western end. But the eastern end is much odder. Street lets a tall east gable grow out of his apse roof and has a three light window with plate tracery. There are plenty of other wilful details, especially in the bellcote and the southern porch. The windows of the church are paired cusped lancets. The chancel arch is in the Early English style too. Plain interior with scissor-braced roof. There is a stone pulpit and attached lectern on a detached Purbeck shaft. An uncommonly excellent tablet dedicated to Mary Alice Walls (died 1877). In the churchyard is the base and part of the shaft of a 15th century cross, restored and made into a war memorial. By the south porch is the base of another cross, probably 14th century (PRN42191).{2}
