Full Description
This site was located during fieldwalking and magnetometry survey prior to the construction of a gas pipeline. It was then excavated, though the excavation only covered a small area of the site.
The excavation revealed five phases of ditched enclosures as well as six hearths, four of which contained grain indicating their use as grain dryers. The ditches contained Roman pottery ranging in date from late 1st century to late 3rd century AD and also animal bone. There were no traces of settlement evidence in this area, although this may possibly be because the core of any settlement activity fell outside the investigation area, or because their traces had been destroyed by ploughing. {1}
