Full Description

PRN 46450 Several pits containing Bronze Age artefacts were found during excavation prior to the construction of the Partney by-pass. One of the pits contained the crouched inhumation burial of a single individual, possibly a young female, placed in the top of the shaft. Another pit contained a miniature axe-like wedge, perhaps of ceremonial or funerary function. At least one of the pits was cut by middle-late Iron Age post holes. Whether there is a definite link between this site and the later ritual/settlement complex (46451 and 44851) is uncertain but possible. {1}{2}{3}
