Full Description
PRN 46445
Topsoiling during work on a British Gas pipeline revealed a complex settlement site of late Iron Age/early Romano-British date. The site was in a poor state of preservation and was greatly truncated, and only a relatively small area of it was investigated.
The site features included a large main enclosure with internal divisions, probably related to livestock management. Several circular gully features were also present within the main enclosure. The probable remains of a field system were apparent to the south of the main enclosure.
The site was relatively rich in finds, including many datable artefacts. The finds include many pottery sherds, an iron brooch and tentatively identified coin and metal working moulds.{1}
