Full Description

A complex of ditches and pits were uncovered during a watching brief. The layout of most of the ditches exposed during the watching brief appear to make up three sides of a rectangular enclosure. The southern side of the potential enclosure was interupted by the irregular shape of the borrow-pit footprint, but the short stretches of the ditch which were exposed suggest that the enclosure was also 'closed' to the south. The presence of several pits within this ditch complex bears out the initial impression of a centre of activity within a clearly marked boundary. The largest of the pits contained Bronze Age pottery, animal bone and burnt stones, possibly domestic refuse. Three pieces of worked flint of late Neolithic/early Bronze Age date were also found in the pit and ditch.{1}{2}
