Full Description
PRN 36707
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the groundworks for a development on land off Belton Lane, Grantham. Faint traces of ridge and furrow were observed. The ridges and furrows were seen to run approximately east-south-east to west-north-west down the length of the site. All the ridges appeared to terminate in a very shallow bank running north to south. The faint traces of ridge and furrow show that the development site occupies agricultural land which was part of the Medieval open field system before the development of housing in the late 19th / early 20th century.{1}{2}
