An archaeological watching brief was maintained during groundworks at Lincoln Minster School, Upper Lindum Street, Lincoln. The watching brief identified and recorded a number of stone structures of Medieval and post medieval date. The features included substantial east to west, and north to south, aligned limestone wall foundations. It is likely that these were part of buildings that stood on the site prior to demolition in the early 20th century. An arched doorway, which may have formed part of an undercroft or cellar was also recorded, along with robber trenches and a number of floors or occupation layers. A brick lined structure, circular in plan was located in the northeast quadrant of the site. This structure may have served as an oven or hearth, and was filled with rubble containing 18th century pottery, glass, slag and tile.{1}{2}
