Full Description

PRN70474 An archaeological wathcing brief was maintained during groundworks at Lincoln Minster School, Upper Lindum Street, Lincoln. The watching brief identified a large pit found towards the north of the site. The quarry (or quarries) was filled by reddish brown silts and sand, alternating with deposits of mixed clay and limestone fragments, together with charcoal-rich lenses and a layer of possible mortar. A series of quarries would appear to represent a continuation of activity noted previously in evaluation trenches to the northwest. Although undated, the quarrying activity is likely to date to the earlier part of the Medieval period.{1}{2}
