Full Description
A Handley Page Hampden bomber aircraft crashed on land to the east of Sudbrooke, on the morning of Tuesday the 11th of February 1941. The aircraft was designated AD719 from 49 Squadron, based at RAF Scampton, and had been on a bombing raid to Hanover. It was intercepted and shot down on its return by a German plane (probably a Ju88 or Me110). Two crew members managed to parachute from the plane and landed near Sudbrooke Grange. The plane was on fire when it crashed 200 yards to the north of Sudbrooke Lake, hitting a large tree as it came to ground. The remaining two crew members on board perished in the crash. {1}
