Full Description
2005. An archaeological watching brief was carried out at The Horse Close, Chapel Lane, Minting to monitor groundworks associated with the construction of a swimming pool at the rear of an existing property. This work revealed a single phase of archaeological activity dating from the late 9th to the late 10th century. The un-abraded condition of the pottery assemblage recovered from the pit would suggest primary deposition within this feature. The laminated nature of its fill, with the inclusion of a sheep mandible and a mussel shell might suggest an interpretation of domestic waste deposition. Generally, the evidence may be viewed as a significant indication of probable domestic occupation of the area dating to the 9th to 10th century.{1}{2}
