There was in the village a small chapel of ease, but it was taken down in 1698, and the materials used in repairing the church. This chapel was appropriated to Shelford Priory, Nottinghamshire.{1}
There was formerly a chapel here called Shefford chapel, perhaps erected by some Prior of Shelford. Its site is still called Chapel Hill, and consists of a little eminence in the village, about a half-a-mile south east of the church. In 1535 reference is made to this chapel, as William More was then presented to it as well as to the church of Dorrington. The chapel bell, dated 1644 shows that the chapel was still then used, but in 1698, it was pulled down and its materials were used to repair the church.{2}
