Summary

Unlocated brick kiln, Mareham le Fen

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

46343 The brick assemblage which was recovered during excavation at Fieldside suggests that bricks were produced in the village by at least the fifteenth century. The poor condition and size of some of the bricks suggests that they may have been intended for use in a kiln superstructure or flooring. A fragment of decorative brick is thought to have been produced as a demonstration of the maker's skill, rather than for domestic purposes. The location of manufacturing is not known. {1}{2}
