Full Description

PRN 46242 Earthworks of an unknown nature were observed on a site visit in 2004 as part of the Lincolnshire Coastal Grazing Marsh project. {1} An archaeological trial trenching conducted in 2021 revealed an east-west aligned linear ditch at the southern end of the earthworks, which was identified as a possible field boundary or drainage ditch. The ditch profile was shallow and heavily truncated, as well as being sealed within the topsoil horizon. This was likely caused by later ploughing activity. The ditch contained 50 sherds of pottery, dated to the 12th-13th centuries. Two further sherd of redeposited pottery, dated from the 13th to 16th century, was found in a trench to the west of the ditch. {2}
