Full Description

63824 A nonconformist mortuary chapel is located at the Boston Road cemetery.{1} The site was visited in 2009. The nonconformist mortuary chapel was built at the same time as the identical conjoined Anglican mortuary chapel when the cemetery was laid out in 1880. The Anglican chapel is still in use but the nonconformist chapel which forms the west wing is now used as a store for cemetery equipment. It is built of red brick with yellow brick dressings and has a gabled roof with a slate covering. The pointed doorway is set in the gable elevation under a large central gabled porch with a bell turret which connects the two chapels. There are three stepped lancet windows in the opposite gable and a finial. The side elevations have three bays of pointed windows, separated by buttresses, with yellow brick dressings with a hollow chamfer and leaded coloured glass. The eaves cornices and gable verges have courses of red and yellow brick and the gable verges and eaves cornice facing the graveyard have a course of nailhead ornament. The building rests on a brick plinth.{1}{2}
