Burnt matter, a number of hand-bricks, the jaw bone of a deer, and other animal bones were found when a mound, 2ft 6ins high and about 20ft across, was levelled in about 1852. The site was walked in 1954, when one Romano-British pot sherd, the top of a bottle, possibly Roman, and sherds of gritty ware (possibly Iron Age, Romano-British or Medieval) came from the same field. {1}{2}
