A beer house stood which was demolished in the late nineteenth century. The Three Tuns was kept by J. Biffham who brewed her own beer and she was nicknamed 'Keggy'. Keggy had a reputation for buying illicit gin. After being caught by Customs and Excise she had her licence reduced to a beer house. {1}
It is reputed that when the Three Tuns and the adjacent prison were demolished that a skeleton, with a knife still in its back was recorded. When foundations were excavated in 1991 for the erection of telephone boxes it is purported that two further skeletons were found. {1}
