PRN 70432 The Primitive Methodist Chapel on St Mary's Street first appears on the Padley Map of 1842. {1} The chapel was erected in 1840. It was nor a separate building and there were two houses joined to it. It was used exclusively as a place of worship and had a maximum congregation 400 people. {2} In 1839 a group of Primitive Methodists established themselves in a yard off St Mary’s Street, Wigford. In 1873-5 this chapel was comprehensively rebuilt and they remained here until they moved to a gigantic new chapel sited in High Street and designed by Howdill and Sons of Leeds in 1905 (PRN 70410). {3} The building was demolished just before 1905, with the expansion of the Great Northern Railway station. The building does not appear on the Ordnance Survey Map of 1905. {4}
